Obituary for James "Skeeter" D. Martin

James D. “Skeeter” Martin (60) passed away on December 26, 2019 at Sycamore Run Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after battling cancer. Skeeter is the son of Herbert & Margaret Martin and was born on August 17, 1959. He graduated from West Holmes High School, Class of 1977. He was active in the West Holmes FFA and began farming at the young age of 12 with the help of Marlin Moore.   After high school, Skeeter worked in the oil field industry running excavation equipment. On July 4, 1981, Skeeter married Patricia S. Reiheld Martin and over the years their business, Sweet Breeze Farms & Excavating LLC, has evolved. Besides farming and excavating, Skeeter enjoyed serving as a Ripley Township Trustee, serving on the Western Holmes Fire District Board as President, and eating breakfast at Merv’s Centerville Country Club every morning.   Over the years, Skeeter was involved with the Holmes County Fairboard serving as a Director, the Ohio Young Farmers, the Holmes County Farm Bureau, the Pork Producers, the Ohio Land Improvement Contractors of America, the Ohio Onsite Wastewater Association, and the Millersburg Eagles #2418. In addition to his wife and parents, Skeeter is survived by his children, Erika (Jason) Schuch and Tara (Brent) Sheldon, his grandchildren, Becca Schuch, Andi Schuch, Jenna Sheldon, and Breck Sheldon, his siblings, Kevin (Kim) Martin and Denise (Mike) Dorgan, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Donna Smetzer, Bill (Diane) Reiheld, Dick (Shirley) Reiheld, Joyce (Jim) Croskey, Bob (Cindy) Reiheld, and Chuck (Billie) Reiheld, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim & Luella Uhl and Henry & Ada Martin, his in-laws, Phillip and Ruth Reiheld, a brother-in-law, Jim Smetzer, and a sister-in-law, Coralie Reiheld. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Holmes County Home, 7260 SR 83, Holmesville, Ohio 44633 or the Holmes County 4-H Advisory Committee, 75 E. Clinton St. #109, Millersburg, Ohio 44654. Family and friends may call Monday, Dec. 30 from noon until 3:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jack McClelland officiating, private family burial will follow. Schlabach Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
