Obituary for Terry K. Jones

Terry K. Jones, 78, of Wooster and formerly of the Big Prairie and Lakeville area passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at LifeCare Hospice, Wooster.

Terry was born June 13, 1941 in Millersburg, Ohio. He was the son of the late Harry W. Jones and the late Jeanne Miller Jones McClaran.

He was a graduate of the Big Prairie-Lakeville High School, was a Boy Scout in his teen years and honorably served his country in the United States Army (1962-1965). Terry was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone as a U.S. Embassy Specialist in the Top Secret Communications Dept.

Terry was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns, along with the Ohio State Buckeye’s and West Holmes Knights and Triway Titans, also the College of Wooster sports. Being an avid sports fan, he coached the BP-L Little League Teams to a record of 109 wins and 8 losses during the mid sixties. He also played softball for the Lakeville Lakers for 25 years.

He was owner of several restaurant-lounges in the surrounding areas. Terry always said with a laugh, he appreciated all his customers, most for coming, others for leaving! Terry worked for 15 years at Mansfield Sanitary Pottery in Big Prairie (plastics division). He also was involved in home renovations as a second side job and was owner of Shreve Household Furnishings for 18 years. He officially retired at the age of 70, due to health issues.

Terry was a member of the Shreve – Lakeville United Methodist Church and was superintendent of the former Newkirk Methodist Church of Big Prairie. He was also a member of the Lakeville Fire Dept in the 50’s and 60’s and a member of the Shreve American Legion Forest Post 67.

Terry is survived by brothers, Jim (Suzi) Jones and Ron (Linda) McClaran; and a sister, Melinda McClaran Hornyak, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Miller McClaran and stepfather Marion McClaran, his father Harry W. Jones and stepmother Mary L, Jones; brothers, Mike and Tim; sister, Melody and a special cousin Pat Leppla.

Family and friends may call Monday, February 10th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Schlabach Funeral Home, Shreve. Funeral services will be Tue. February 11th at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Shreve American Legion Forest Post 67.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Shreve American Legion Forest Post 67, P.O. Box 613, Shreve, OH 44676 or the Athletic Depts. of either the West Holmes Knights or the Triway Titans.

The family would also like to thank LifeCare Hospice for the compassion and loving care that was shown to Terry and them during his illness.
